We have an IBM ThinkPad TransNote with Windows 2000 professional and
Outlook 6.0.
A desktop 466 Mhz processor with Windows 98 and Outlook 6.0.
The laptop serves as the server for Internet/email connections. For
some time we have been able to network the two with one line, one
account. Both CAN NOW, surf the Internet and download emails. The
laptop can send emails and the Desktop USED TO SEND EMAILS. The
Desktop if connected just itself alone, directly thru an external
modem, CAN send emails. When connected thru the laptop, it cannot send
emails.
We have checked options, sharing, etc. and nothing works for the
Desktop to send emails THROUGH the laptop.
What can we do to correct this problem?Hello:
When you say "send emails THROUGH the laptop", do you mean the SMTP
server for the Desktop PC is the Laptop? or the SMTP server is an
external server?
Regards. What are you using to share the connection? Sounds like maybe you are
using a simple web proxy, which won't work for anything but browsing. The telephone line is connected to the laptop so it is the server. A
network cable connects the laptop and desktop. We have just replaced
the cable a month ago with worse problems of communication.
The desktop when it tries to send an email has to do so back through
the laptop. Sorry, I am unfamiliar with the SMTP term. I hope you
understand me.
The laptop first connects to the Internet and then provides access to
the 2 PC's. Only problem is that the desktop cannot send email. It
does receive and can surf the Internet.
