2. Is it wise to install Outpost firewall on Windows 2003 DHCP server?
Thanks in advance.
I think Paranoid2000's answers satisfied my needs and I will give Outpost a try, cause I don't bother for more configuring, if it works.
I am very pleased for its behaviour on my WindowsXP workstation. I 've installed it for about 2 months and I like it a lot.
Is there a way for some kind Remote Administration of Outpost or it remains just a suggestion?
Does Outpost Firewall has the same behaviour as previous versions, when been installed on Windows 2003 servers?
I have not seen any problems on DHCP server but what about web servers with high traffic?
Thanks in advance.
Typically though, a router is VERY strong against incoming junk, and you would not see any attacks penetrate to the software firewall, which then serves as a more administrative tool then a protective one.
1. It is not possible to disable the packet filtering function of Outpost and it would almost surely conflict with any other network-level filtering program you chose to run (resulting in slowdowns, disconnections or blue-screen crashes). If you wish to have separate programs then you should consider another product.
2. Outpost is designed for end-users rather than servers. It can be run on servers but expect to do some extra configuration to create the necessary rules. A DHCP server should not involve much - but other servers (gaming, web, ftp, etc) should only be tackled once you are familar with configuring Outpost.
