In the log viewer, I have a number of applications which trigger a large number of "checking application components" and "component checking completed", namely steam, firefox and HL2. I'd understand this if this was an occasional thing, but it seems to happen a lot, and there is seldom anything under the "component" or "checksum" columns. (IE the process is identified, but nothing else). I'm just wondering if this is normal behaviour....
E.g.:-
07:46:34 Component checking completed FIREFOX.EXE
07:46:34 Component checking completed FIREFOX.EXE
07:46:34 Checking application components FIREFOX.EXE
07:46:34 Checking application components FIREFOX.EXE
Today I must have had about 60 of these for Firefox alone.
TIA
Popups are only shown when a component has changed. That's for making sure it's OK with you. But naturally CC has to continuously check every single component, whenever used by a program, to see if it HAS changed. If it hasn't, CC just writes a line to the log for to assure it has done its job. No need to bother you. Firefox and svchost are good examples of programs that use lots of different dll's and other components, and that's why you see so many lines refering to them. Every component has to be checked every time it's used.
I admit the log could be clearer in this case, maybe just by adding the names of the components checked in each case. But maybe that would tie up too much resources or something...
What is your CC level set to under Options Applications and Components (button at bottom) ?
Just in case you are not aware of it, a Component Control FAQ inr OP 2.5 (outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?p=88908#post88908) is available.

Hi. It is set to normal. Yeah, I've read that guide, but thanks for pointing it out.
I should also clarify that I'm seeing no popups in the cases described above. If there were popups and a checksum was generated in the log viewer for the laltered component I wouldn't be bothered. I'm just wondering why I don't see a checksum or popup, yet firefox, svchost etc seem to be almost constantly checked (according to the logs)
